Both PTO Hours and Sick Time
Each employee has accrual setting for both PTO and sick time. Each setting allows you choose one earning code based on the type. For example, vacation hours could be selected as your PTO accrual.
Both PTO and sick are classified as benefit hours. Each can be accrued two ways. By the number of benefit hours received in a year, or the number of benefit hours received per hours worked.
Some states require employers to provide sick time based on the number of hours worked. For example 1 hour of sick time for each 30 hours worked. Please check your state laws to be sure.
Watch for law changes too. California will now require 40 hours sick hours per year, up from 24 hours previously. This to encourage employees to stay home and prevent the spread of germs.
